Caples Building, 300 East San Antonio Avenue

Detail of the Caples Building, 300 East San Antonio Avenue.
The building was named for Richard Caples, El Paso mayor from 1889 to 1893. It was El Paso's first concrete-framed building, and during the Mexican Revolution of the 1910s, it housed offices of several notable revolutionary leaders. Photo taken March 20, 2006.

This building also housed some of the Chagra brothers offices as I recall. The Chagras of course were written about in Gary Cartwright's book, Dirty Dealing. Some may recall that Jimmy Chagra was imprisoned for drug running or related offences while his brothers were prominent attorneys. Jimmy allegedly hired Woody Harrelson's dad to kill Judge Wood, who was to preside over Jimmy's trial. Harrelson died in Federal prison not so long ago and Jimmy was released a year or two before he died as well.
