Graduated from Scotsdale Elementary, then Eastwood, took a vacation between high school and UTEP and "toured" Vietnam for a while in the Army, graduated FINALLY from UTEP.
One of my jobs I had was working in Public Relations for the El Paso Company in the Houston corporate office. In 1978, I went from Houston to Edinburgh, Scotland (to connect with my "roots" since I am 33% Scottish, 33% English and 33% Irish. I walked into a coffee shop on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh called "Circles." I bought a cup of java and as soon as I sat down, someone played on the jukebox "Down In The West Texas Town of El Paso." I damn near fell out of my chair. I whipped out my business card showing it to the manager (my business card read EL PASO COMPANY and the manager nearly fell over backwards and asked me if I knew Marty Robbins.
I think I have this story on my Flickr account which can be found through my website, www.HighAboveTexas.com
I ran back to my hotel and put on my UTEP short, but NOBODY knew what UTEP meant...
